Kirkby Lonsdale is in an area known as the Lune Valley, where the silvery River Lune meanders through a landscape of outstanding natural beauty. Kirkby Lonsdale is perched above the River Lune and views stretch right across and down the Lune Valley
Probably the best view in the Lune Valley is from St Mary’s Churchyard behind the Sun Inn in Kirkby Lonsdale, known as ‘the brow’. The view from here is breathtaking, so breathtaking it has been marked down in history by Ruskin, Wordsworth, Turner and Constable and it is now known as Ruskin’s View. It remains unspoilt from those days to this and can still be enjoyed in its full glory on a visit to the Sun Inn in Kirkby Lonsdale. Standing at Ruskin's View in Kirkby Lonsdale in the southern Lake District you look across the Lune Valley to the Yorkshire Dales.
