Kirkby Lonsdale is surrounded by beautiful Lake District and Yorkshire Dales villages and towns such as Wennington, Wray, Hawes, Clapham, Settle, a fantastic base for touring the lesser visited Yorkshire Dales area; Hawes in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales is just 26 miles or half an hours drive. There is a train from Wennington, just 10 minutes drive from Kirkby Lonsdale, that travels east through Bentham, Clapham, Giggleswick and over to Skipton and beyond, a lovely way to visit these areas. From Settle a train can be caught northwards to Dent, Garsdale, Kirkby Stephen and on to the Carlisle at the north of the Lake District. This journey will take you over the Ribblesdale viaduct.
The Forest of Bowland, just to the south of Kirkby Lonsdale is a wonderful gentle walking area with a scattering a picturesque villages, country pubs and inns.
