The 17th century Sun Inn in Kirkby Lonsdale has recently welcomed Head Chef Sam Carter to oversee its AA rosette-rated restaurant and this month, it will officially unveil a newly-styled restaurant under his namesake, ‘Carter at the Sun Inn’.

Sam has been a chef for 17 years, with his early days were spent in a variety of London restaurants. He has also enjoyed stints in two of the most passionate culinary countries, the French Alps and Turin in northern Italy, as well as spending time on the west coast of Ireland.  Sam led the team which achieved the Sun Inn’s first AA rosette back in 2009, but has recently been tempted back to head up the new-look restaurant after a three year absence.

Sam’s philosophy of food is to keep things simple whilst also trying to use the finest freshest ingredients you can afford and never be afraid to try new ideas. “There are so many new dishes to explore, and I never stop learning about food, techniques and styles“.  Menus at ‘Carter at the Sun Inn’ will also be bursting with local produce which celebrates the journey of fresh, seasonal produce from farm to fork. Herdwick lamb will be an integral part of the new-lookmenu, along with specialities from slightly further afield including salmon from the Argyll Smokery and a seasonal cheese board featuring choices such as the Ewe’s milk ‘Flower Marie’.
