Devil's Bridge, Kirkby LonsdaleKirkby Lonsdale is officially one of the best places to live in the country…..

Our historic market town on the border of three countries – Cumbria, Lancashire and Yorkshire – is one of nine places in the North of England to make the ‘Top 50 Best Places to Live in the Countryside’ list compiled by The Sunday Times.

The guide combines the local knowledge and expertise of Sunday Times writers along with data and statistics in areas such as crime rates and transport links.

Home Editor for the Sunday Times, Helen Davies said: “Britain is home to some of the most idyllic – and wild – countryside, and this supplement is dedicated to celebrating the very best of rural life. We worked carefully to compile a list which combines statistical analysis with personal experience and Sunday Times expertise to create our top 50.”

The Sun Inn is proud to have been shortlisted as Cumbria Life magazine’s Food & Drink Pub of the Year 2015.

The annual awards celebrate the best of the county’s foodie offering, from producers and suppliers to hotels and restaurants.

Carter at the Sun Inn was shortlisted in the final three in the Food & Drink Pub category after being nominated by the magazine’s readers and against some stiff competition from across Cumbria and the Lake District.

The AA rosette-rated restaurant at the Sun Inn has also been included in a series of foodie guides this year, including the Good Food Guide 2015, Sawday’s, Relish and the Good Hotel Guide 2015.
