An evening of perfect pairings at Posh Noshers

Is there a better combination than wine and cheese? We don’t think so. And guests at our recent Posh Noshers evening certainly agreed.

Head chef at the Sun Inn, Joe Robinson, created an exquisite menu, using the finest cheese from The Cheese Larder. And each dish was perfectly paired with a beautiful wine, supplied by EWGA Wines.

The event, our second Posh Noshers evening this year, took place on Wednesday 20th March.

Guests enjoyed an arrival drink – a Pascali Rojo Vermouth – and an assortment of scrumptious canap├ęs in our cosy bar area. They then headed through to the restaurant to take their seats for the five-course tasting menu and matched wines.

The menu was as follows…

  • Smoked whipped goats cheese, shiso, beetroot, puffed barley

  • Ewes curd agnolotti, black garlic, salt baked carrot

  • Sticky pork cheek, apple, Garstang blue, lardo, smoked hazelnut

  •  Lamb rump, wild garlic, whey potatoes, braised shoulder, Yorkshire pecorino, courgette

  • White chocolate mousse, pickled rhubarb, Yorkshire Dales cream cheese, rhubarb sugar

Each dish was introduced with interesting background information about the selected cheese, explained by our guest Jonathan Pearcey from The Cheese Larder in Kendal.  An important aspect of the cheese chosen in each dish was that it would balance the flavour of the meat. For example, the saltiness of the Garstang blue cheese complements the richness of the pork cheek.

Janette McLaughlin of EWGA Wines then took the floor after Jonathan to explain how each wine was carefully paired to complement each individual dish. For example, certain wines that are low in tannins suit certain dishes better than those that are high in tannins – which explains why the lower tannin La Forge Pinot Noir (Languedoc, France) was paired with the sticky pork cheek and Garstang blue dish.

In the meantime, head chef Joe was busy with his team in the kitchen…

We all had a fabulous evening enjoying these perfect Posh Noshers pairings, and we’re looking forward to the next one!
