The Sun Inn’s restaurant team here in Kirkby Lonsdale offer tasty menus bursting with local produce, which celebrate the journey of fresh, seasonal produce from farm to fork.
Our AA two rosette-rated restaurant, Carter at the Sun Inn, focuses on the excellence of the raw product and the highest quality producers and suppliers. Take Dales Butchers, just one door along from the Sun Inn in the heart of Kirkby Lonsdale, which supplies only the finest meats from Cumbrian and Lancastrian land.
Dedicated foodies staying overnight in our luxury hotel rooms may also want to explore some of our local farmers’ markets; regular events take place in Kendal, Milnthorpe, Bentham and Hornby to name a few. Also close at hand is Kitriding Farm Shop & Cafe just outside Kirkby Lonsdale, Low Sizergh Barn near Kendal and Greenlands Farm Village at Carnforth.
Introducing the team…
The Sun Inn’s Head Chef, Sam Carter, has been a chef for 18 years. His early days were spent in a variety of London restaurants and he has also enjoyed stints in two of the most passionate culinary countries, France and Italy. Sam led the restaurant team to achieve the Sun Inn’s first AA rosette back in 2009, and more recently, inclusion as a ‘local gem’ for Kirkby Lonsdale in the Good Food Guide 2015, our second AA rosette and an AA Breakfast Award 2015.
Sam and the team aim to keep food miles to a minimum and provide some mouth-watering flavours for all our diners to enjoy, whether overnight guests or restaurant diners looking for a special place to eat out on the border of Cumbria, Yorkshire and Lancashire.
