Foodie treats in and around Kirkby Lonsdale

_FOODIE TREATSKirkby Lonsdale is a hidden gem for foodies, with everything from artisan breads at the town’s Lunesdale Bakery to speciality confectioners Chocolat, which comes complete with its own ‘enchanted chocolate mine’.

There are more tasty delights for visitors to Kirkby Lonsdale at nearby Kitriding Farm Shop & Cafe, which sells fresh cuts of meat, as well as making sausages, burgers and black pudding. Low Sizergh Barn near Kendal and Greenlands Farm Village at Carnforth both offer authentic, seasonal foodie treats. Many of the Sun Inn’s guests also pop across to the Yorkshire Dales to visit The Courtyard in Settle. The Wensleydale Creamery, the only maker of Real Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese, is another must for cheese-lovers.

There are plenty of local farmers markets to explore too, including regular events in Kendal, Milnthorpe, Bentham and Hornby. And if that hasn’t got the tastebuds tingling, why not try out some Lake District delicacies, ranging from hand-made chutneys to the famous Grasmere gingerbread and Cartmel sticky toffee pudding? For craft beers and traditional ales, savour the taste of Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery or the Hawkshead Brewery & Beer Hall, just down the road in Staveley. If wine is more your thing there are wine tasting courses held just 5 minutes drive from the Sun Inn at Leck Gallery.

The foodie indulgences needn’t stop there. Back in Kirkby Lonsdale, guests can dine in style at our 2 AA rosette restaurant, Carter at the Sun Inn. The team here at the Sun Inn are proud to be listed as a ‘local gem’ for Kirkby Lonsdale in the Good Food Guide, as well as receiving an AA Breakfast Award for quality breakfasts to refuel overnight guests.
