“Let the Sun Shine Inn…” Taste magazine’s glowing review of the Sun Inn
We are so pleased to have welcomed Taste magazine to the Sun Inn for a pre-Christmas getaway.
Magazine editor Rachael Oakden’s review has appeared in the most recent edition and offers a glowing review of her stay with us.
Rachael begins by discussing Sun Inn owners Iain and Jenny Black’s ownership over the last 18 months: “They’ve managed the transition seamlessly, maintaining the same laid-back luxury, warm hospitality and genuine dog-friendliness that the Sun had long been known for.”
Together with our head chef Joe’s accomplished career and vision for the Sun Inn: “Finding a new star chef to take forward the two AA Rosette restaurant has been one of their biggest challenges. With the arrival of Joe Robinson in the summer, they’ve finally found their man. Last time I tried Joe’s cooking was at nearby Hipping Hall where as sous chef he was standing in for his boss, Oli Martin. It was a tasting menu that left a lasting impression.” She adds: “I’m raring to see what Joe’s making of his first head chef role.”
Rachael enjoyed the mushroom ravioli as a starter, commenting: “There are dots of mushroom puree and two dreamy dollops of St James custard (only a confident chef would dare custardise the meatily pungent raw sheep’s-milk cheese made by hand at Holker Farm Dairy on the Cartmel Peninsula).”
Rachael’s main course of rib-eye steak also didn’t disappoint: “The pint and the logburner just put me in that mood – and it was, to be fair, faultless, onion rings, triple-cooked chips and all.”
The lovely review finishes with: “Perhaps the bells are having a night off, but I’m so relaxed and happy that I sleep contentedly through the night without the need for the earplugs kindly left in our room to mitigate the chimes from St Mary’s Church next door. A plate of perfect eggs Benedict, a stroll through the churchyard to Ruskin’s View, and the weekend’s got off to a wonderful start.”
What a fabulous review! You can read the full piece in the November/December edition of Taste.
