Paws for Thought – Muddy boots and wagging tails on our sponsored walk for Animal Rescue Cumbria
By Charlie Black, head pooch at the Sun Inn
Our third sponsored walk in aid of Animal Rescue Cumbria, on Sunday 17th March, was a tail-wagging success.
We started the walk with delicious refreshments at the Sun Inn – bacon butties and coffee for the humans, homemade dog treats for me and my fellow four-legged friends.
Tummies full and waterproofs at the ready, we gathered outside for a quick group photograph before heading off on the six-mile route – led again by superb local guide, Loren Cafferty.
Luckily, we escaped the rain for the duration of the walk, which was certainly a stroke of luck after the storm that had washed through Kirkby the previous day!
We enjoyed lovely sunshine and blue skies as Loren guided us on a loop up through High Biggins, back down to Kirkby Lonsdale, over to Underley and back around again.
The route was really dog-friendly, which meant my furry friends (Toby, Harley and Poppy) and I had plenty of time to run around off the lead, and we even started a stick-collecting competition, as well as a competitive game of fetch (if that isn’t a perfect Sunday, I don’t know what is!)
After arriving back at the Sun Inn, the humans enjoyed a well-earned celebratory pint of Guinness for St Patrick’s Day and a scrumptious Sunday roast.
We’re so proud to support Animal Rescue Cumbria and we’re already looking forward to planning our next sponsored walk. This time it might be a full-day event with a picnic lunch included too! Be sure to keep an eye out on our Facebook and Twitter if you’d like to join us. If you missed out on this one but would still like to donate to Animal Rescue Cumbria, you can find our collection boxes on the bar and around the restaurant.
