Why British Food Fortnight is so important…

British Food Fortnight is an important date for the foodie calendar. 

The annual event, which runs from 21st September to 6th October, is organised by Love British Food.

It was created in a bid to promote British food and to encourage retailers, caterers and food outlets to make British food their preferred supplier of choice. 

The campaign is the ideal opportunity for everyone to come together and promote the benefits of buying and eating from our British larder. 

This is a topic that our head chef, Joe Robinson, is passionate about. 

Joe prides himself on using local and seasonal produce for each of our menus throughout the year. He has also introduced foraging to the menu – with exciting ingredients and both classic and experimental flavour combinations. 

Joe said: “I believe in only using fresh, seasonal produce and making the most of what the local area and our local suppliers have to offer. 

“The best bit about my job is being able to create new things and being flexible, depending on what produce is in season. I always work months in advance to research the menus and play around with ideas. I’m passionate about foraging and that always plays a big part in the menu changes. The food at the Sun Inn will always be season-dependent because that is the only way to use the best produce – it’s the best way to cook in my opinion.”

He added: “The British seasons are all fantastic. But my favourite is spring. There’s fantastic fresh produce, such as asparagus, peas, broad beans and wild garlic. On the foraging side, the wild garlic is my favourite as it’s so versatile.”
